The Agile Software Factory

Empowering students and the community through software development service-learning.

Welcome to the Agile Software Factory (ASF) at Bowling Green State University! The ASF is a program within the Department of Computer Science at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) that exists to accomplish four main goals:

  1. Provide Computer Science students with real-world, hands-on learning opportunities that increase the students' value to future employers.
  2. Serve community partners by developing software systems that meet their specific needs and by providing ongoing software support.
  3. Further the cause of service-learning at BGSU as a part of the University's mission to become the premier learning community in Ohio.
  4. Promote Agile methods of software development, which focus on collaboration, adaptability, and user needs.

Created in 2008 by Dr. Joseph Chao, the ASF accomplishes these four goals by actively engaging the community, locating partners for student projects, and fostering corporate cooperation to cultivate the skills students need to excel in industry. The ASF, with a grant from the Agile Alliance and sponsorship from BGSU Information Technology Services and the Department of Computer Science, is the first program to integrate Agile methods into higher-education curriculum and has been featured in a number of information technology publications.

Available on this site is information for students who are interested in working with the ASF, community partners who are in need of the services provided by the ASF, and corporate sponsors.
